Our Primary Programme – 8 -12 year olds

Welcome to our Primary Programme page. We have found that there is an increased need for younger children to be accessing alternative provision alongside their primary school. So in response to need we have opened a designated Primary Base at Future Roots in June 2025 and our Primary Programme has been given the name: ‘Nature Through Nature.’

Why Nurture Through Nature?

Being outside and surrounded by nature is good for us! Add in the farm and our fantastic animals it is a match made in heaven. We have an exciting new provision based on a farm near Sherborne for 8-12 year olds who are struggling with mainstream school. The new programme is run by a qualified teacher and managed by a nurture trained professional. We are based on a 30 acre farm, please watch our video below that shows our site.

Our Primary Base

We have a designated area on the farm for our younger primary aged young people. This is situated within our garden and play space area.

How can we help and support?

Have you got young people in your school who you know need something different?
Are your staff saying a young person is struggling in the classroom?
Our Nurture Through Nature provision is for 8-12 year olds who are struggling with mainstream school.
The new programme is run by a qualified teacher and managed by a nurture trained professional.

How do we do this?

We will agree the goals with the young person and school.
We can provide the relevant curriculum if a subject is being missed.
We will use activities based around the outdoors, farming and animal assisted therapy.
Team games will play an important feature in every session.
Each young person will create a memory book of their positive resilience building experiences on the farm.

What does a session look like?

A free visit will be organised with parents/carers or school to see if provision on the farm will make a difference.

Morning or afternoon sessions: 9:30 – 1:00 or 1:30 – 3:30

There might be some flexibility with times so we potentially can offer 10am-2:30pm on some days.
The programme is for a minimum of 12 weeks. Ideally 24 weeks for the greatest impact.
Group size is 6 to 8 young people with 2 workers.
Individual 2 hours sessions can be provided if required.
Transport must be provided.
