Despite a challenging year, 2021 sees the beginning of a major new venture at Future Roots – the Rural Retreat Project. This will entail the creation of a purpose-built multi-use ‘rural remedy centre’ at Rylands Farm, enabling Future Roots to offer family intervention support to prevent family breakdown.

More about us and the project
Who we are – Future Roots has provided stability and direction to thousands of young people and families for over 13 years. Our dedicated, qualified and experienced mentors offer a unique combination of animal assisted therapy, character building programs, academic qualifications and a wide range of learning opportunities. This resilience model leads to positive outcomes at times when young people are most in need.
Why we are doing it – There are a wide range of reasons why an individual may require respite and often the currently available respite resources are found to be unsuitable. We know that families reach crisis point for many reasons and a short break may make the difference between families staying together or falling apart. There is a chronic shortage of overnight places to stay that will cover supervision, support, and meet individual needs offering meaningful day support on the farm as well as waking night cover.
What are we doing – We are building a rural remedy centre that will offer family intervention support to help prevent family breakdown.
What we have done – Over the last two years we have engaged with a local Architect practice who have supported our dream and produced a build scheme with full planning approval and Building regulations. We have free support for a leading cost consultant to develop the tender package and project cost plan.
What we NOW need to do – We need to raise awareness of the project to secure funding and sponsorship for all aspects of the building. Everything from the groundworks and buildings structure to decorations and internal fit outs. Wherever possible we are also keen to use renewable and environmentally responsible solutions.
