Meet Benji

Alfie passed away in January 2024 and can never be replaced, he was a legend, brave and loyal and shared 18 years developing Future Roots alongside us all. He is missed every day and that won’t change.

It is time to share our home with another four-legged friend, crazy though it may sound, I feel Alfie has been part of this. We are giving a home to a young dog who had a tough start, he is already loved by us all in the family.

Hi I am Benji!

I have come from Romania, I had a tough start, I was born homeless with a brother and two sisters, my Mum tried to look after us and she did keep us safe but food was difficult to come by. A human found us all hiding and took us to a kennels, they fed us and kept us safe. We had a medical check-up, but we were in a very tiny concrete space with lots of other dogs barking. Then another human came and said they might be able to find us homes in the United Kingdom that seemed exciting and scary. We all travelled together but I was still scared, my sisters didn’t make It but my Mum and my brother did. We stayed together for a few days but Mum needed a rest so they found her a home and I hope she is very happy, I might see her again one day. My emergency foster home was exciting, I had play mates, space to bounce on sofas and do zoomies and everyone was very kind, I had food regularly .. sometimes I got scared but I had a space to go to when I was scared .. my doggie friends were fun, we played tug of war a lot. I was warm and could sit in the sun .. life felt good

My forever home

one day I was put in the car with humans I didn’t know … I didn’t know what was going to happen, I felt really sick and very scared .. I liked the people I lived with.
I got out the car and there was so much space I was really scared, I was helped to feel calm by a human and stayed very close to their side
So many questions ..Was I staying here, would I be fed, it was scary I don’t know what to do or where to go. A big dog was there and gave me a side eye, not sure she was going to like me or be like my old play mates ..she didn’t look much fun but she wasn’t grumpy either.

I stayed close to the human on the sofa .. I was taken outside onto long green wet grass they called it, I didn’t know what to do so I just walked around the human in circles I didn’t want to leave her feet .. I stayed as close as possible this was really scary, I had many cuddles and felt ok until bed time, then I went in a room with the big dog, there was lots of soft bedding I cried a bit but the big dog made me feel safe. The human came and got me very early I was so pleased to know I wasn’t going to be left alone.
