Taster sessions in vocational skills for the hardest to reach young people.
Future Roots has a strong track record of engaging some of Dorset’s most disaffected students through strong partnerships with mainstream schools, special schools and learning centres.
We work with young people with challenging behaviour who are at risk of becoming NEET when they leave school. Many are at risk of exclusion or have already been excluded. Despite this, we are able to progress 88% into further education, employment or training.
In conjunction with Dorset Trade Skills and Skills 4 Life, we offer programmes of horticultural and building skills, which has been designed to engage new learners. Upon completion longer accredited courses are available.
All of our activities are enterprise-based, so there is a real sense of purpose and achievement. The course provides health and safety inductions and taster sessions in the following:
- Animal care and welfare
- Laying slabs
- Preparing land
- Planting and growing
- Maintaining plants
- Food hygiene
- Preparing meals
- Health and nutrition
- Rural skills (hedge laying, drystone walling etc).
Our day starts at 9.30am with activities running until 1.30 including lunch together. Activities continue from 1.30pm until 3.00pm, (but sessions are flexible if school or child has particular needs).
- Terms are individual to each service level agreement but prices range from £40 per student per session.
