We’ve had a great few months setting up The Countrymen’s Club and last Wednesday we rounded off the year with a Christmas party for everyone involved. After the turkey and trimmings, we turned our hand to a little oral history. One of our aims in the coming year is to use storytelling and reminiscence as a way to get older men involved in the project. Our inspiration for this has come from James Crowden’s Dorset Man, a book of life histories and portraits that is sadly now out of print. We’ve also been reading up on the BBC’s Listening Project for top tips. You can listen to the poem’s at the countrymen’s blog.
